“THE
NEW CONCEPT OF A MAKER PLANT”
|
IM&T filed a
patent for an innovative process to produce coated abrasives.
A pilot plant has been set up and several tests have been successfully
worked out, confirming the absolute reliability of the new process. |
| |
| The system named CLP consists
of a plurality of sizers and intermediate flat dryers. Very
short as a whole, using different energy sources such as infrared,
contact heating and hot hair blows, it allows to dry at winding
stage, rolls of any kind of backing, bonded with any type
of resin phenolic included.
Even bonding standard resins as in the classic
production systems, no modifications at all to the adhesives
is requested.
Here below listed some of the advantages featured by the new
system: |
- The necessary room to install it, vs. the one needed
for a standard maker of the same production capacity is
roughly of one third.
- Dramatic reduction of jumbo rolls stock.
- Possibility to produce any width up to 1650 mm.(65”)
throughout the full range of grits.
- The amount needed for an investment on a traditional
maker featuring mm.1650 ( 65” ) of working width,
50 mt. (164 ft. ) and 150 mt. (492 ft.) festoon type driers,
allows to install at least 4 pieces of the new equipment,
giving the opportunity to produce 4 different products
or 4 grits of that product at the same time (attached
layout).
- Possibility to expand the production capacity just adding
a new machine.
- CLP replaces the drying and the curing festoon type
ovens of the traditional makers. It is also possible to
combine a traditional maker with the new one just adding
a new concept drier for the second coating after the festoon
oven.
- Absence of stick marks. Since no sticks are used, all
the related problems are avoided.
- Lower energy consumption and lower pollution level.
- The multiple size coats make the product more efficient.
- Possibility to use different kinds of resins for each
sizer.
- Rolls curing in a separate oven is necessary only with
phenolic resins.
Products bonded with epoxy, urea and similar resins are
winded ready for being converted.
- The CLP modular structure allows producing single products
but could well be added to a traditional maker.
- All kind of laminations, top sizing and any other no-load
treatments can be performed.
